Ricky Waters was born in the small South Taranaki town of Patea. He is a man who enjoys life and loves meeting, socialising with, and entertaining people of all ages.
Ricky has had a wide and varied experience in music. He has played cornet, trombone, and percussion in brass bands. He has involved in drama and choral groups which led him into choirs and vocal groups later on. He has conducted bands and trained and conducted vocal groups from trios to one hundred and fifty voice choirs.
He possesses an unusually wide vocal range that allows him to sing across the full male vocal range. He has been singing solo for over fourty years. For fifteen years he specialized in Gospel performances in New Zealand and Australia. His involvement with groups spans some twenty five years including the Country music award winning group “Good Question”.
He has been likened to Sir Howard Morrison, John Rowles, Eddie Low, and Ricky van Shelton, but with the cheekiness akin to that of the late Billy T. James. He is a Master of the Ballad. His magnetic personality, quick wit, humorous banter and confident stage craft, along with his friendly off -stage charisma, have made him a sought after Guest Artist, Support Artist and Compere.
In the early 1990’s Ricky won some 34 Country Music Awards and titles. He has toured Norfolk Island twice with Joy Adams, Brian Ringrose and Kiwi Konnection. He toured New South Wales and has performed at the Tamworth Festival three times.
The Paihia Country Rock Festival, has invited Ricky to perform for several years now. He was one of the inaugural performers at the Taupo Country Rock Festival, 2000. He has performed in Clubs, fundraising concerts, promotional events, corporate and social functions in many centres throughout New Zealand.
Today he specialises in Modern Country and Easy Listening music and performing as a duo with his wife, Maureen. He really enjoys singing songs that Maureen has written. He plays Bass Guitar and drums for local Country Music clubs.
